    David Seth Kotkin (born September 16, 1956), known professionally as David Copperfield, is an American stage magician, described by Forbes as the most commercially successful magician in history.[2]

    Copperfield's television specials have been nominated for 38 Emmy Awards, winning 21. Known for his combination of storytelling and illusion, his performance, in a career spanning more than 40 years, have earned 11 Guinness World Records,[3] a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame[4] and a knighthood by the French government.[5] He has been named a Living Legend by the US Library of Congress.[6]

    Run like the Dickens

    On paper, The Personal History of David Copperfield does everything right. The first feature bio adaptation of Charles Dickens's 1849-'50 novel in a half century is both clearly in love with the source material (just check out that title, which at least reminds us that most Dickens novels technically have much longer names than we generally use when we're talking about them*). But it's not using the source ämne as a prison, instead charging it up with zippy comic energy, thanks to director Armando Iannucci's great skill with keeping banter moving at a fast clip, as well as his ability to gather enormous and extremely talented casts all in one place and then find good things for all of them to do. And David Copperfield has an especially ingenious cast, on top of it.
