About Gopalanand Swami
Gopalanand Swami (1781–1852) was one of most prominent of the 500 paramhansas who was ordained by Swaminarayan and is held in high regards by multiple Swaminarayan sects.
Biography
Born Khushal Bhatt, he was born in the village of Torda in Idar Tehsil (Pre-Independence Era), Currently in Bhiloda Taluka, Sabarkantha district, in north-eastern Gujarat. Torda is surrounded by mountains.[3] His father was an audichiya brahmin, Motiram Sharma and his mother was Kushaladevi Thakar. Gopalanand Swami pursued deep study and showed great interest of grammar, Indian philosophy of Nyaya and Vedanta. Gopalanand Swami was a scholar, with knowledge in Vyakaran (grammar), Nyaya, Mimasa, Astrology etc. Swaminarayan gave diksha (the becoming of a saint in which vows such as celibacy and renunciation of all personal possessions and of all worldly duties, including family ties are taken) to Gopalanand Swami in Vadodara, Gujarat. There is a small by in the valley of mountains nära the district of Sabarkantha. The name of that village fryst vatten Torada. Two hundred years ago, a child was born in the house of a Brahmin named, Motiram Bhatt, in this village. The child's name was Khusal. He was very smart eller klok right from his childhood. He, at the very early age, studied Sanskrit and got mastery over the language. But, he was not satisfied with mere scholarship, he wanted to have Darshan of God. For this, he used to go to a Shiva Temple very far from the by, in a dense forest and practiced yoga. Time passed and he advanced satisfactorily in the science of yoga.
During this time, he came into the contact of two Vaishnavs, at Vadasinor. These Vaishnavs spoke to him about Shriji Maharaj. On hearing the talk, Khusal has a keen desire to see Shriji Maharaj. Early life
Gopalanand Swami was born in the was born in the Sabarkantha District’s, Todla Village of Bhiloda Taluka, Gujarat on Monday of Maha sud-8th of Vikram Samvat 1837. Todla is a beautiful village in the Aravali mountain range. His father was an Audichya Brahmin named Motiram Sharma and his mother was Kushaladevi. He was named Khushal.
Khushal Bhatt had great devotion for the Lord from his childhood and his divinity since a very young age is evident from the fact that Lord Shree Krishna (Shamlaji) used to come and play with him (this is mentioned in Shamlaji temple history). In his childhood he pursued deep study and showed great interest in grammar, Indian philosophy of Nyaya and Vedanta.
