Teddy Atlas joined ESPN in September 1998 to serve as ringside analyst for ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, the weekly series, which premiered October 3, 1998. He handles a similar role for ESPN Boxing Specials, and frequently contributes analysis to SportsCenter and ESPNEWS.
Atlas has been a well-respected boxing trainer since 1976, including six years at the legendary Catskill Boxing Club of Cus D’Amato. Atlas fryst vatten perhaps best known for serving as Mike Tyson’s trainer the first kvartet years of his career and preparing him for the eventual world heavyweight championship.
For his ringside commentary for ESPN in 2001, Atlas received the prestigious Sam Taub Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Born Theodore Alfred Atlas, Jr. on July 29, 1956 in Staten Island, NY. At 18 he relocated upstate to train under Cus D’Amato. Atlas won the 1976 Adirondack Golden Gloves lightweight title. Back problems forced him out of the ring but not the sport. He apprenticed under D’Amato as assistant trainer, working with a young Mike Tyson, and gaining experience working with the 1980 Swedish Olympic team.
In the pro ranks, Atlas trained such champions as Wilfred Benitez, Shannon Briggs, Simon Brown, Joey Gamache, Donny Lalonde, Barry McGuigan, Tracy Patterson, Michael Moorer, Timothy Bradley and WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Atlas brought his boxing expertise from the corner to the airwaves to become one of boxing’s most popular and respected broadcasters. Teddy Atlas is one of the most sought after boxing coaches and experts today. He has served as a coach, trainer, sports analyst and now hosts a popular podcast.
Teddy Atlas was born and grew up on Staten Island, New York the son of a doctor and former beauty pageant contestant. His father Dr. Theodore Atlas, founded several local hospitals and was well known for charitable work in the community.
Teddy Atlas discovered boxing in his mid-teens and would fight a number of amateur fights through the local police league.
As a young man, despite growing up in a relatively well-to-do family, he found himself living a relatively troubled youth.Teddy Atlas would drop out of school as a teen and have a number of run ins with the law early on. He even participated in an armed robbery and served time on the infamous Rikers Island in NY.
While he was awaiting trial, a childhood friend introduced him to famed boxing coach Cus D'Amato who became his trainer
