John Rankin Waddell (born ), known as Rankin, is a British photographer and director who has photographed, amongst other subjects, Björk, Kate Moss, Madonna, David Bowie and Queen Elizabeth II.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
The London Evening Standard described Rankin's fashion and portrait photography style as "high-gloss, highly sexed and hyper-perfect".[12]
He has directed music videos, documentaries, a feature film, short films and commercials.[13][14][15][16]
Early life and education
[edit]Rankin was born in Glasgow.[17] In , his family moved to Yorkshire,[18] where he attended Thirsk School. They again relocated, to St Albans, where he studied at Beaumont School.[1]

JOHN RANKIN ROGERS was born in Brunswick, Maine. After serving as a druggists apprentice, he worked in a number of occupations before buying a farm in Kansas. He held local offices in both the Greenback Party and Union Labor Party, and used his newspaper, the Kansas Commoner, to support first the Union Labor Party, and then the Farmers Alliance, which championed the causes of western farmers. After his farm was foreclosed, he moved his family to the newly-formed state of Washington, opening a mercantile and real estate business in Puyallup. He helped organized the Farmers Alliance there and supported the Peoples Party. In he was elected to the state legislature, and won election to the governorship in as a Populist. As governor, Rogers supported public education, a centralized administration, and economy in government. A fervent nationalist, he also supported commercial and military expansion. Rankin made his name in publishing, founding the seminal monthly magazine Dazed & Confused with Jefferson Hack in It provided a platform for innovation for emerging stylists, designers, photographers and writers.
In , Jefferson and Rankin launched AnOther Magazine. With a focus on fashion, originality, and distinction. In response to the expanding menswear market, in AnOther Man was introduced, combining smart eller klok editorial with groundbreaking design and style.
In November , Rankin returned to magazine publishing with a fresh offering - The Hunger. A biannual fashion, culture and lifestyle magazine, The Hunger and its associated Hunger TV website - a video-based digital platform featuring in-depth interviews, mode films, blogs, updates, and previews - marked Rankin's return to the mode world with an understanding that the future fryst vatten not only printed but digital too.
