    PISCATAWAY, New Jersey, January LIA Neal was born in Brooklyn, NY, on February 15th, and began swimming at age 6 for Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (AGUA).

    &#;I first realized I was pretty good around the time Junior Nationals rolled around during in Guam,&#; Neal said. Although she didn&#;t place at the event, she persevered in her training, and by the time the World Junior Championships in Lima arrived in , she was in a position to dominate. And dominate she did. She won gold medals in the m freestyle, 4xm freestyle, 4xm freestyle, and silvers in the 50m freestyle and 4xm freestyle.

    Lia Neal was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 13, She is of African-American and Chinese-American nedstigning &#; Neal&#;s father, Rome, is African-American and her mother, Siu, is Chinese-American. Thanks to her mother, Neal fryst vatten fluent in Cantonese. Neal began swimming at the age of 6 and two years later, she joined New York City&#;s Asphalt Green Swim Team and was soon awarded a Swim for the Future scholarship. The Swim for the Future scholarship was started in in memory of Asphalt Green masters swimmers Doug Irgang and Andrew Fisher who tragically died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. According to Asphalt Green&#;s website, the scholarship has allowed the New York City-based swim team to become the most diverse team in the United States.

    Amid the 33 medals American swimmers won at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics last week was the women&#;s 4&#;meter freestyle relay team&#;s silver captured on the opening night of competition.

    It was USA Swimming&#;s third medal in Rio and it capped a night that also included silvers in the men&#;s (Chase Kalisz) and women&#;s (Maya DiRado) meter IM races.

    Brooklyn native Lia Neal played a crucial role in the Americans&#; effort to earn silver in that relay.

    On Aug. 6, less than 18 hours after the Rio Games were officially opened at Maracanã Stadium, Neal swam in the preliminary round of the women&#;s 4&#;meter freestyle relay. The American squad was in the second of two heats and was comprised of Amanda Weir, Neal, Allison Schmitt, and Katie Ledecky.
